Today I am going to be LACONIC, it means to use very few words, being precise, to the point and brief. I actually think that i am getting more LACONIC with every new blog i write, less and less words. Which is not so good for all the people reading this because it means they have less sentances to put words such as LACONIC into. Today, if you are one of those people who talk lots try and being LACONIC because it's quality over quantity and if you say your being LACONIC it might just make you look smart!

Elucidate
ELUCIDATE means to explain, or make clear. I hope i am ELUCIDATE-ing this word for you by explaining and making a few sentances about it. When teachers explain a certain question that you don't get, (i had a few today in Physics) they hope to ELUCIDATE for you. Sometimes however, we are ELUCIDATE-ing when we tutor other students and even when we correct our teachers. I hope today i have ELUCIDATED the word ELUCIDATE for you and hope you will enjoy using this wonderful word!

Ceteris paribus
Okay, so your looking at the title and thinking thats not a 'word' thats a phrase, well i get that it might be spelt as two words seperated by a space but when you say this you can't just say ceteris or just paribus you have to say CETERIS PARIBUS. CETERIS PARIBUS means to hold everything constant, everything being held the same, etc. I learnt this one in Economics the other day whilst learning about price vs quantity graphs or something. The way in which my teacher had said it was "...the demand for a good or service at a particualr time, place, CETERIS PARIBUS". This word/phrase is a latin word and is said exactly how it is spelt.

Raciology
RACIOLOGY is the study of racial differences. I have never came acrss someone who is a RACIOLOGIST but i'm sure they would be very nice because they know the differences and people and probably know how that makes a minority with that difference feel so they decide to be nice to everyone. (In an ideal world that would most deffinatly happen).. I don't think i would like RACIOLOGY as a career because it's just not me, and not trying to be a know-it-all here but i think i know enough racial differneces to last me for a while. So thats the word of today :)
If you know a RACIOLOGIST or you are one yourself thats cool. :D

Obfuscate
Todays word! what a joy! OBFUSCATE means to render obscure, unclear or unintelligible. Basically when someone with an afro, gets in your way when your at the cinemas and you can't see the movie they are OFBUSCATE-ing you. When your brother (or sister, or any family member for that matter) gets in your way of the mirror when you are doing your hair or "putting your face on" they are OBFUSCATE-ing your view of yourself in the mirror. If you are really tall and stood of someone really short you would OBFUSCATE. Enjoyy!

Lexicon
Todays word of the say is LEXICON it means a vocabulary of a person, or branch of knowledge. A dictionary would be a LEXICON and i am extending my LEXICON (as are you when you read this blog)by adding new words to it every day. I came across this word today when i was twxting my brother and my auto correct on my phone turned something into LEXICON, my brother then stated that i was trying to be smart (but thats a whole new story). Hope you enjoy this word i know i will :)

Combretaceous
Tonights word of the night is totally random, don't know. It just popped for me. COMBRERTACEOUS, -wow thats big- means belonging to a family of tropical shrubs and trees yealding tanning and dyeing materials. Why did i choose this? I saw tanning and thought it was meant to be, ( I am pretty pale at this moment in time) Well, it turns out that it isn't anything to do with fake tan, so i'm pretty bummed :/. So in a tropical rainforest you would find alot of foliage that is COMBRETACEOUS!, thats all this is a very hard word to put into context. Sorry.

Zany
Tonight my word of the day is ZANY. It means ludicrously or whimsically comical or clownish. So a stand-up comedian would be ZANY or someone making an idiot of themselves... sound like anyone you know? I love this word when it comes to scrabble because it uses that hard-to-get-rid-of "z" and only requires 3 other letters and so will give you lots of points and you might win! Yay. So this blog isn't ZANY (unless you are thinking about the blogs content, in that case it is very ZANY), but it is too late at night to be thinking right. So i'll leave you to find something ZANY in your life and make you smile. :D

Idiosyncratic
Okay, so here's a wierd one for you, (well, it was weird for me so it might be for you too). I was looking for large-ish words to put in my essay and I came across this one; IDIOSYNCRATIC, it means of or relating to idiosyncrasy, peculiar or individual. Which put in simpler terms, means a behaviour that is odd for a person or group to be doing. So if i slept on an roof with a owl (which i have never done, just to clear things up) that would be IDIOSYNCRATIC because not everyone sleeps on a roof with an olw. I actually find this word pretty cool and i think it is a wonderful new adition to my vocabulary, i can just imagine this one catching on in my home town, soon converstaions will run a little like this: "Oh my goodness, look at that''.. "WOW, that is so IDIOSYNCRATIC!". Now all you redaing this are probably thinking this girl is insane but i assure you i am not. I just like new words. :)

Hope you like this word, and if you know what IDIOSYNCRATIC means and i have used it wrong, please let me know because that would be awful to make such a fool of myself.

BELLWETHER
Hey! So i figured out something i wanted to be on my list of things to do before i die. It is a 365 day challenge of "A Word a Day" so it is here i will think of/look up a word in the dictionary and state it's meaning and use it a couple of times so it gets imprinted on my brain of the way in which it is meant to be used. So todays word is 'BELLWETHER' it means to be a leader. So there are many leaders in the world but i believe someone who is a real leader or as i like to say.. BELLWETHER! is someone who doesn't have power and isn't born with power but someone who likes to be different and set new trends because thats just who they are. :) So when i think of a BELLWETHER i think of someone like Albert Einstein or Thomas Edison and although these are people who are extreamly famous for their inventions and scientific workings, they had to think, persevear and work very hard in order to achieve what they wanted. It sounds like such a "posh rich girls tantrum" saying but when i want something i get something, not through my parents or family or friends (although the best things in life usually come from these people) but through myself. I have to work for it, i have to read the right books, talk to the right people, listen to advice, and do what seems right now - not in 3 years time. This is exactly what these people have done. WORKED HARD.
Please leave comments on words you think i should use as part of my 'word a day' challenge (I really don't know much words). No swearing or cuss words, i feel something more intellegent that extends peoples vocabulary is in order.
