Stolid

STOLID means hard to arouse; not easily excited; showing no emotion; seemingly dull. Examples: a STOLID person, a STOLID animal, his face was STOLID, her hair was STOLID etc. Sorry about my obsession with animals, people and their features in my examples. I couldn't think of many more. But this is definatly a word I can see mysef using. Too bad many of today's societys 16 year olds vocab doesn't extend beyond swear/cus words. They probably wouldn't understand what I was talking about, instead they would simply display a STOLID expression.

Aficionado

A person who is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about an activity, subject, or pastime. You could say I am an AFICIONADO when it comes to sport and the gym. I love them! Almost addicted - in a good way obviously. Albert Einstein was an AFICIONADO when it came to science and the infamous e=mc^2. In a way, we are all AFICIONADO'S in one way or another, it just depends on the subject, pastime and/or activity.

Rheumy

RHEUMY means being like a watery discharge such as mucus, tears or saliva, or being like a cold. This word is pretty hard to put into a sentence (I think). Any suggestions leave a comment. Unless ... was something like 'she was coughing as a RHEUMY elderly person would'.

Supercilious

Hello! Long-time no blog. Okies.. I am going to try and just get 365 words up before the end of the year (about a week into Feb 2013) as I have heaps of words I have found in various reading material of mine. As the title says, SUPERCILIOUS is the word at the moment. It means: Behaving or looking as though one thinks one is superior to others. I like to remember it as a snob, but a much classier word. I found this in the movie 'Australian Rules' directed by Paul Goldman and I quite like it. Don't you?   SUPER-SILLY-OUS is how you say it, use it sometime. My brother is always quite SUPERCILIOUS. But that’s just younger brothers for you!

Arbour

ARBOUR a framework that supports climbing plants; "the arbor provided a shady resting place in the park". When I plant tomato's and grapes I have to make sure I put an ARBOUR in to support the vines and fruit.

VICTUALLED means to provide with food or other stores OR Obtain or or lay in food or other stores. I don't really know how to put this one into a sentance. Sorry about that..

Ingratiate

I like this word! INGRATIATE means to bring oneself into favour with someone by flattering or trying to please them. Basically in Australian slang, it's a suck-up, butt-kisser and goodie-two-shoes etc. It makes the old slang words seem petty and instead puts an elegant twist on insulting. I am now going to call my brother an INGRATIATOR and say that he only has one purpose in life - to INGRATIATE. Oh this is marvellous! INGRATIATING can get you some places but not everywhere, real results come from hard work and determination.

Eminence

EMINENCE means 1. Fame or recognized superiority, esp. within a particular sphere or profession: "her EMINENCE in cinematography". 2. An important or distinguished person: "the Attorney General canvassed the views of various legal EMINENCES". Those examples are from Google, and here are some of my own: "Kim Kadashians knows her EMINENCE in reality television" and "The Judge reviewed statements from key EMINENCES". Have a beautiful morning, day, afternoon, night and everything else. :)

Auguring

AUGURING means 1.(of an event or circumstance) Portend a good or bad outcome. OR, 2.Portend or bode (a specified outcome). Examples of this are the statement: 'I feared that the play would not AUGUR well' or the statement 'The fecies on the pathway seemed to augur Mia's life'. AUGURING is simply the process of such things happening.

Soporific

SOPORIFIC means: Tending to induce drowsiness or sleep. Also, a drug or other agent of this kind. When I listen to a monotone voice I find that to be quite SOPORIFIC and I tend to want to dose off until they are gone. I also find maths class SOPORIFIC and thats not because I think I know everything that the teacher is saying, it is because I just find no interest in what the teacher is saying even if I do want to get good exam results. Please avoid being SOPORIFIC in any way and make your life fun, exciting and the envy of your peers!

Proscribed

PROSCRIBED means to forbid especially by law. If something is PROSCRIBED it is illegal, in Australia, the use and sale of drugs such as cannibus and coccaine is PROSCRIBED as is the sale of alcohol to people under the age of 18. We do have other laws in which something has been PROSCRIBED but I cannot be bothered to list them all here tonight. PROSCRIBED also means to denounce or condemn. That is, when terrorists are arrested they would most likely be PROSCRIBED to death.

Insalubrious

Wow, this word is a mouth full! INSALUBRIOUS means not salubrious; unhealthy, (of a climate or locality). SALBRIUS means healthy, plesant, not run-down - just for definitions sake. China is probably regarded as INSALUBRIUS as it has alot of polution in the air, (I'm sorry if any of my readers live in China and are offended y this :S) Whereas Australia would probably be SALBRIUS because of the healthy air.

Obstinacy

Sorry I haven't posted in ages!!!!!!!! I have found some good words though :D Here is OBSTINACY it means stubborness: the trait of being difficult to handle or overcome. I believe that the mental illness of Depression would have OBSTINACY to it, as would all mental illness'. My brother has uncontrollable OBSTINACY and don't even get me started on my dog! If he doesn't want to go for a walk he sits in the middle of the road and won't go again until you have turned toward home and promise him some doggie biscuits! Goodness me!

Try not to OBSTINATE it's probably bad for your health.

Dysania

I love this word! DYSANIA: the state of finding it difficult to get out of bed in the morning. Whoever made this word or came up with the idea of this word, I can completely agree with every part of it. Whilst I may not actually have a physical state which means that I can't get out of bed in the morning or that makes it difficult, I believe I do have DYSANIA. Bed is pretty much the perfect place to be; warm, comfy, and you can connect with everything from this one spot, it is a mind map that I'm sure has helped many a student! You can have your phone/phones, wallet, iPod's, laptops, work, school work, alarms, lights, power points, books and so much more just on a bed. Truly a wonderful invention and a wicked word! :D Do you have DYSANIA?

Metathesiophobia

METATHESIOPHOBIA is the fear of change. I have this, not completely i suppose because some change is good, but too much change is just bad. Negative change is bad, actually a lot of change is bad! Let me just say that someone dying and someone leaving your life is possibly the worst change  that can occur, it is for this reason, I have METATHESIOPHOBIA and don't want change to occur. It is nearly school holidays!! Whoop whoop! this sort of change is fine by me! I can't wait to be able to sleep in, sleep during the day, wear pj's all day, and cover myself in donas and pillows :D Ah, the life!  Do you have METATHESIOPHOBIA? :S

Wanderlust

WANDERLUST a desire to travel, to understand one’s very existence. Eat Pray Love covers this both in the book and in the movie, it is what the whole story is based upon; discovering ones self. I feel as though I have WANDERLUST, always wanting to travel and to understand my existance, I feel as though everybody was put on this earth for a reason and while some people choose to live a 'normal' life i admire those who set out to discover their purpose and to fulfil that purpose. Have you ever been struck with WANDERLUST? How so?

Vertiginous

VERTIGINOUS means to cause vertigo esp. by being very high or steep or relating to or affected by vertigo. The blocks at the local swimming pool are VERTIGINOUS because although they are only 0.5m above the level of the waterand i have basically lived at the swimming pool for the majority of my life I still get vertigo when I am standing on them. Some find aeroplanes VERTIGINOUS, others find rollercoasters VERTIGINOUS. etc..

Aplomb

APLOMB means self-confidence or assurance, esp. when in a demanding situation. In demaanding situations it is very important to have APLOMB because it can help you get through the situation. If i had more APLOMB in my yr 11 exams I probably would have done better, but seeing as I didn't I did horrible! Go me! :(. When it is rush hour at my work (the only but best bakery in town) on a weekend, I have heaps of APLOMB because I am the worker who has worked there for the longest amount of time and, i hate to say it, probably the fastest.

Sinews

SINEWS means: A piece of tough fibrous tissue uniting muscle to bone or bone to bone; a tendon or ligament. This is in third person and is a noun, however when you use it in first person it is a verb and means: To strengthen with or as if with SINEWS. I guess you could say that when two people go through a tough time together their friendship is strengthened with SINEWS (in a metaphorical sense, that or they break up and nnnever speak to each other again, but thats ssort of depressing so I would prefere not to speak of that. Be united with SINEWS!!

Sentenious

SENTENIOUS has wierd spelling I think, I had to defy all my natural instincts jsut to write the 'en' after 'sent' anyways here is the meaning: Given to moralizing in a pompous or affected manner. I'm not sure how to use this word and I cannot remember how it was used or where (I think it was in the West Australian news paper, maybe..) but i'm going to take a stab at it. A SENTENIOUS book; A SENTENIOUS poet. There. On further examination I found that it means of the same nature as a maximum; pithy, so look at my definition of pithy for help on how to write with this marvelous word. :)

Miasma

MIASMA means 1.A highly unpleasant or unhealthy smell or vapor: "a MIASMA of stale alcohol" or 2.An oppressive or unpleasant atmosphere that surrounds or emanates from something.  In the sense of the seccond definition when there is a funeral there is most likely a MIASMA. I don't know if anyone reading this read has seen the second episode of Hamish and Andy's Euro Gap Year but if you have then the rotten fish that Hamish forced Andy to eat had a MIASMA (in the sense of the first definition). I like this word, to hell with it, I like all words!

Pithy

This word is one which was used in the definition of my last word and means: consice and forcefully expressive, or if it's of a fruit or plant it is when the plant/fruit contains much pith. In case you didn't know pith is the skin of an orange and i'm sure it's not just oranges but also other plants. Australia's politicial leaders at the moment aren't very pithy, (they tend to drag out their answers then they never actually arrive with a true answer to the topic at hand). I find Barak Obama (please forgive me if I have spelt his name wrong) to be pithy, but not in a forceful way, protesters are pithy,  people who start rebellions are pithy etc. Enjoyy!

Aphorism

APHORISM: A pithy observation that contains a general truth. Interesting word... for some reason, this word reminds me of an epiphany. Don't ask me why. So APHORISM, do you ever have any? (observations that contain a general truth, that is). I don't really, i tend not to because in a way if you have an APHORISM it's like seeing someone and stereotyping them, but it turns out to be true. If you know what i mean. So, my observations in science are not APHORISMS because 9 times out of 10 I am wrong. :(. APHORISMS can happen all the time and i'm sure we have all done it once or twice in our life times and possibly not noticed. With this word, I am wondering if it is anything like deja vu? My gut tells me it's not but i'm not sure.

Rapprochement

My Mum has some good books with great vocabulary doesn't she! RAPPROCHEMENT is not to be confused with re-approach, because it's nothing to do with that word. Instead, it means; An establishment or resumption of harmonious relations, (usually in international relations). So say you and a close friend had a falling out and stopped talking to each other then you had a RAPPROCHEMENT.

Proselytizing

Here is an interesting one for you. PROSELYTIZING: Convert or attempt to convert (someone) from one religion, belief, or opinion to another. I was involved in some PROSELYTIZING last night when my calculator  'broke'. Dad believes that he fixed it, when he didn't even touch it for a second and i believe that he didn't, for obvious reasons, so i tried to PROSELYTIZE him to see things my way and come to the light that he had no input into the fixing of my calculator, he still hasn't come to his senses. With this word, i think there may be some sort of difference in the way Aussies and Americans spell it. I saw it in my book as PROSELYTISE but google spell it as PROSELYTIZE (with a 'z' instead of a 's'). I think google may be trying to PROSELYTIZE us. <---- Hehe see what i did there. When you show a friend a song that you love that is not necessarily their music genre you may try and PROSELYTIZE them  into thinking it is a great song, I do this all the time to no avail. Sadly, some people think i have poor music choice, but i can't see how that is when i listen to all genre's and like ALL music. If you join a religious cult you are becoming PROSELYTIZED, but that's fine as long as that's okay with you. PROSELYTIZE someone one day, they might just be able to see that you have always been right.

Coalesce

COALESCE: Come together as a whole or mass. Synonyms for this word would be conglomerate (see it as one of my previous W.O.D.'s), combine, the popular slang word 'shin-dig', corrobery etc. I cannot think of many ways to put this word, i personally wouldn't use it, it just doesn't 'gel' in my mind, and the meaning doesn't suit the word in my opinion, instead, reminding me more of a cul-de-sac. When people come to a church or gathering of some sort they are COALESCEing, when someone starts a revolution/uprising/protest they are COALESCEing. If you were to join and a friend were to join a protest you would be COALESCEing.

Highfalutin

HIGHFALUTIN: Pompous or pretentious.. (especially in writing, speech or ideas). Many of my ideas are HIGHFALUTIN, which, i suppose is not a good thing. Much of my writing and sometimes the way i speak is HIGHFALUTIN as well. Now i guess that some people reading this are probably thinking "what the hell does pompous or pretentious mean..?" so ill define them too. Pompous: Affectedly and irritatingly grand, solemn, or self-important and... Pretentious!: Attempting to impress by affecting greater importance than is actually possessed. Basically, what this is saying that people who speak in a HIGHFALUTIN way are up-themselves. HIGHFALUTIN is not a good way to speak/write/think, apart from when you are passionate and think that a certain point you are trying to get across requires more attention. Try being HIGHFALUTIN for a day and see what people think of it.

Mollified

To MOLLIFY means to 1.Appease the anger or anxiety of (someone) and 2.Reduce the severity of (something); soften. So i guess that MOLLIFIED means that once you have appeased someone of their anger or anxiety or reduced the severity of something you have MOLLIFIED [someone/something].

It would be a great help if someone could MOLLIFY me at the moment. I have two exams comming up in the morning one at 8am and the other at 12pm, and although they are only worth an easy 10% i am still stressing. Partly because i have to wake up so early in the morning just to get there on time also,  I have work at 2pm and the last exam goes for 2.5 hours.. so i might be a little late for work, what do you recon? Don't worry i'll tell my boss and they will be okay with it... hopefully. If not i may have to MOLLIFY my boss. :S

Have a good day tomorrow, I know i will.

Scrupulous

This word means 1.(of a person or process) Diligent, thorough, and extremely attentive to details.
2.Very concerned to avoid doing wrong. I am the latter, ask my parents and they will tell you that i am pretty perfect :) I never set  a foot wrong because i don't like to get in trouble and am afraid of the consequences that my actions may have.
I am sometimes SCRUPULOUS in my school work however, ask my teachers and they may tell you otherwise. When i edit another persons work or even my own i am very SCRUPULOUS in my correction of spelling, grammar and punctuation even if this is sometimes not the highest regarded point for which i should be marking. In life, try not to be too SCRUPULOUS as life is a journey that has to involve mistakes in order for one to learn.

Vicissitude

This word my mother found in her book 'The Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' by I don't know who. It means: A change of circumstances or fortune, typically one that is unwelcome or unpleasant. This was a great word and mum found it right at the most perfect time. I was writing an essay and this word fit right in and was exactly the word i was looking for. In the book this word is used in the following way:
'... he should be ready to shoulder his portion of our financial VICISSITUDES' (page 186).
VICISSITUDES can be used in this was with a subject before 'VICISSITUDES' otherwise it can be used by it's self without the 's' in this way;

'...  his life encounters a VICISSITUDE set in motion with the arrival of an Ace of Diamonds in his mailbox'.
Which is the way I used it in my essay. Hope you now understand the meaning of VICISSITUDE and can use it confidently. If reading my blog was in any way a VICISSITUDE I am sorry and please forgive me.

Ubiquitous

Found this one somewhere i don't know... But UBIQUITOUS means to be present, appearing, or found everywhere. So the old song 'love is in the air' is really saying love is UBIQUITOUS. Something that is UBIQUITOUS is oxygen and carbon dioxide as every living thing in the world needs one or the other. I suppose if you are a religious person you would believe that God (or the person you worship/believe in) is UBIQUITOUS. I do. As humans we cannot be UBIQUITOUS but we can multitask and, with the help of technology, be in contact with many people at the one time.

Herculean

This word i believe would have come from the greek god Hercules in spelling and meaning. It means something that requires great strength or effort: "a HERCULEAN task" or the musculinity and strength of a person. When one has a hard task at hand they can say they have a HERCULEAN task as i have stated above or when they see a body builder they can say that they believe that particular man/woman to be HERCULEAN. I wish to come across a HERCULEAN man one day, i think it would come in quite handy if ever i needed a body guard. Why i would need a body guard i don't know, maybe my blog would get so famous that i would be swarmed with loving and adoring fans... *dreams of this to occur*. ANYWAY, i'm getting side tracked. Goodbye and Goodnight (even if it is only: 4:13pm here in Aus).

Erroneous

This word is somewhat guessable from the first part -'erro' but i didn't click on when i saw the word or read the word's context in my book. So the meaning of ERRONEOUS is wrong; incorrect. Stemming from the word 'error' I'm assuming. When talking to my family and friends now i am going to use this word because after all, if the people of my life categorise me into the stereotype of a 15/16 year old i intend to act like one. That being said i will be able to show-off my linguistic capabilities by saying:

'"No you are ERRONEOUS, and i am not as i am 15 and know all"'.
Good one don't you think?  Evil plan if ever i heard one. Media is often ERRONEOUS is their articles because sometimes they may think they have 'the scoop' when really it is a load of rubbish, made up to keep ratings and views and the audience entertained.

Celluliod

This word is one I found on an article in TIME magazine on their 100 most influential people. CELLULIOD means 1.A transparent flammable plastic made in sheets from camphor and nitrocellulose, formerly used for cinematographic film. 2.Motion pictures as a genre. In both cases it has a strong link to films. I am stumped as to how i can use this word in a sentance so i wwill give you the context in which it was written and then be off.

'It was so hypnotic, so thrilling, that I ended up watching 20 hours over a month, arranging life and appointments (for which I was invariably late) in such a way as to catch previously unseen segments of that CELLULIOD epic called a day'.
The above is in reference to Christian Marclay's 24 hour film The Clock. Bet he is happy, a bit of free advertising for his film.

Intrinsic

This word, once again is one i found in a book i am currently reading and it means belonging naturally; essential. In one way you could say water is INTRINSIC to human and creatural existance, in another you could say that every child is INTRINSIC to a family. Either way there are many examples of where INTRINSIC could be used in modern society. Everything that is in our lives is is someway INTRINSIC to our lives.

Litany

Today's word of the day!! LITANY means a tedious recital or repetitive series. At the beginning of writing this blog it was a LITANY but now it's just something i like to do in my spare time. A job can sometimes be a LITANY but if like me, you like your job/s and it's new and exciting for you everyday than it's not. I bet some of the many people who practice theatre and ballet find that their recitals for productions a LITANY. Another word for LITANY would be chore, to put it into context for you. Try to make your LITANY'S not so unbearable but to make them enjoyable and fun.

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia

I've blogged about the word that means you are addicted to big words, so what happens when you are scared of them? I'll tell you what! HIPPOPOTOMONSTROSESQUIPPEDALIOPHOBIA. For time's sake, i will not be writing that word again. Sorry. Note that after the first 'third' of the word it says SESQUIPPEDL, this is part of the word that means the addiction to long words. Phobia just means it is recognised world wide and so HIPPOPOTOMONSTRO is the part that means you are scared of '...'. When you think of it.. that sort of looks like hippopotamus.

Edentulous

EDENTULOUS is quite a funny one. I am going to say that it describes my father completely when he doesn't have his false teeth in. As you would have guessed EDENTULOUS means lacking teeth. When all your teeth rot and fall out you are EDENTULOUS. Sometimes because of old age your teeth fall out and it leaves you EDENTULOUS. I am not EDENTULOUS.

Feverishly

This one is quite the obvious one and when i looked up the meaning i was face palming at how obvious it was. Never the less, it means to do something in a FEVERISH manner. Stemming from the word FEVERISH meaning having or showing the symptoms of a fever, (FEVERISH also means displaying a frenetic excitement or energy, which is not quite as obvious. With my current situation being one that involves me lying in bed with a cold i could say i am completing all my tasks and chores FEVERISHLY.

And the next word is.... PLETHORA.  It means to have an excess of [something]. The word surplus is the same as the word PLETHORA (in meaning). I don't think anyone no matter who the are can have a PLETHORA of knowledge, everything will come in handy one day. Same goes with music, i love music and no matter what it is or when it was released i will always listen to it one time or another, some may say i have a PLETHORA of music but i simply say i love music. If you do have a PLETHORA of knowledge, please do share. :)

Penchant

PENCHANT means to have a strong or habitual liking for something or tendency to do something.  I have a PENCHANT for writing blogs, and just writing in general. I also have a PENCHANT for going on my laptop just for the satisfaction it gives me of having something to do that is not overly important. All mothers (i would hope) have a PENCHANT for loving their child, beautiful or ugly, fat or thin, tall or short. It comes when the child breathes it's first breath, but perhaps even before then. After this no matter what the mother only wants what is best for their child.

Trepidation

A feeling of fear or agitation about something that may happen. If to have this feeling of TREPIDATION was a sin i would be guilty. I always have this feeling worrying about what could happen and what probably will happen. It is probably not healthy to be TEPID, for our mental or social health but that's the way it goes, we are only humans after all. If you can refrain from having the feeling of TREPIDATION that would be great. If not, it doesn't matter life will go on.

Sanctimonious

Today's word is a derogatory term that means to make a show of being morally superior to other people. I found this word in my current novel for school; The Messenger by Marcus Zuzac on pg 13. SSANCTIMONIOUS is a word that i am happy to have learnt because i can now say to my brother "you are so SANCTIMONIOUS!" when really i am being SANCTIMONIOUS in saying such a word. I find that many people act SANCTIMONIOUS when they are being intimidated.

Unintelligible

This is word means to be impossile to understand. I think of how, sometimes, i think everything i say is UNINTELLIGIBLE and i am talking rubbish but then i dismiss any feeling i have because surely everyone else in the world has felt. Next time you think that you are saying or doing something UNINTELLIGIBLE think of me and how i am proof that you are not alone. Thats all for tonight.

Irked

I realise I have missed a few days but i figured that's all right seeing as i have already failed haha. IRKED means to annoy or to irritate. I had my first plane flight yesterday and it was amazing, i loved everything about it, nothing IRKED me, oh, apart from how much food the air hostess' kept giving me, it was soo much! add to that Qantas club before that! i was soo full! The cold IRKS me that's why i am where i am - in the heat-. Wat IRKS you?

Whippersnapper

I've always heard this word on movies and i use it sometimes when i say to my litte brother something along the lines of "stop it you little WIPPERSNAPPER" just as a joke because i find the word funny. Anyways! so now the meaning.. a shallow or insignificant person; a whipster: also used attributively. A young and cheeky or presumptuous person. I'm a WHIPPERSNAPPER! haha a young and cheeky person, but i am pretty significant ;P haha. I'm bored and i'm making noises... is that wierd anyways,, when i'm writing these blogs it's like i am talking to myself hmmm what a lonely life i live :/ I need some holidays.. *insert dramtic deep voice here* comming soon on the 6th of april!!

Tchotchke

A TCHOTCHKE is a small, decorative item or souvenir, usually of no particular value. I have many TCHOTCHKE's they are my cute little reminders of how life was, how life is and everything that means anthing to me. Another word for TCHOTCHKE is knick knack i know alot of people i know say knick knack but TCHOTCHKE sounds cooler and looks much more sophisticated on paper. I wonder where this word came from because it doesn't look english instead being something foreign. One of my TCHOTCHKE's is a white, sparkly angel given to me by one of my best friends, another is a blue cookie smurf figurine given to be by another one of my best friends, i have these two TCHOTCHKE's by my bedside because to me it means that no matter where i am my best friends are with me. Corny right? well thats just the way it is.

Lament

Sort of a sad one today :( but it's been a sad day for me so i find it fitting. Todays word is LAMENT it means to mourn or grieve. With this  i am wondering if it is possible for someone to LAMENT someone who is not yet gone or who is living but distant from one's life? I sometimes get this feeling. I feel as though i am LAMENTing someone when they haven't passed yet they are just no longer in my life and i feel sad and as though a part of me has died not having them with me, i am sure many teenagers who have had their heart broken get this feeling too. What are your thoughts? Do you ever LAMENT someone who is still alive?

Serendipity

Noun: The occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way: "a fortunate stroke of serendipity". Let me just say how dissapointed in myself i am, i missed a day :( i was out all day, had friends over who only just left at 4 in the arvo today and i forgot to do a word. I therefore failed my 'challenge'. But never the less i am going to continue writing a word a day, on most cases i probably will write one a day but sometimes i might forget again :/. So my fiends comming over yesterday and me going out all day was not SERENDIPITY, but me spending my holidays with the people i love, in the places i love doing ghe things i LOVE is most definatly a stroke of SERENDIPITY! That is what my holidays are goong to be about, lucky me :) Some people might say that you have to make gour own luck in this world but i believe otherwise, because SERENDIPITY can happen and it does is small ways that we sometimes don't notice. Sesquipedalian

SESQUIPEDALIAN is someone who is addicted to the use of big words or containing or measuring a foot and a half; often humorously said of long words. I would consider myself a SESQUIPEDALIAN - addicted to big words not a foot and a half ha ha. I find big words interesting and more engaging then smaller words because not only do you have to try harder to say them right but you also have to make sure you get the meaning right, after all, bigger words generally have bigger and more complicated meanings. Anyways, whats a foot and a half? A 40 cm ruler is a SESQUIPEDLIAN because that is about a foot and a half, damn old measurements! I challenge you to find someone or something that is a SESQUIPEDALIAN as for me I'm just AUSTRALIAN SESQUIPEDLIAN! How about it: :P

Scintillating

SCINTILLATING means brilliantly clever, amusing or witty. Boy, do i know some people who are SCINTILLATING! this is a great word! yay! ha anyways.. My dad would probably like to think that he is SCINTILLATING but in actual fact he isn't, if you met him he would seem very SCINTILLATING but when you live with him and hear the same joke 6 times in the one day, day after day then and only then is he not very SCINTILLATING. Don't get me wrong, i love my daddy :P and his lame, repeated jokes are sort of funny but not as witty and clever as you may think. Do you know any SCINTILLATING people? i think most people would but they may not recognise or care to think about them in that way.

Scuttlebutt

SCUTTLEBUTT, while it may seem like it is somone who walks fast and has a wobbly 'butt' thats not what it is. It means roumour, gossip or slang. There is alot of SCUTTLEBUTT in highschool, everybody has been a part of it whether it be the delivery or the reciepent end of it. The slang part of SCUTTLEBUTT is okay but when it comes to gossip and roumours, i try not to listen to it or pass it on. Dont get me wrong though, i have before and i am not proud but it is still sometjing that needs to be stopped! Who invented this word? Seriously? I have no idea but i think they were drunk at the time listening to 'Big girls, you are beautiful' by mika because no sober person would think of such a word with that sort of meaning. :P. If you are going to SCUTTLEBUTT then that is just no acceptable in the very diverse society that we live in and i would encourage you to stop.

Metacognitive

This one has me stumped. Think about it heaps and thats what it can do to you, or even just read it slowly. METACOGNITIVE is the process of thinking about how we think and make meaning. Now that you have read that last sentence your brain is going through it's METACOGNITIVE process to derive some sort of meaning from the meaning i gave you. Did i confuse you? Your brain assuming it thinks how it supposed to and it is somewhat similar to my own would be undertaking some serious METACOGNITIVE process'. Enjoy thinking about the meaning of METACOGNITIVE and try not to confuse yourself as this will involve a METACOGNITIVE process.

Schlep

Isn't this a wierd one? SCHLEP means to carry or drag around; to move slowly, or as if burdned ALSO a long tedious journey. Does that then mean that life is a SCHLEP because it can sometimes be very tedious and it is a long journey upon which we learn (depending on the individual of course). I believe it is. Cat's also are doing the actions of this word when they carry their new born kittens around. They are SCHLEP ing their kittens. When one is tired or lathargic they will normally SCHLEP in order to finally get their engery back by means of using little or no energy during the day. Thats all for now, try not to SCHLEP all day :).

Rigmarole

Today's word is RIGMAROLE!! okay so i hear this word all the time in the media etc. but I have never truly understood the meaning until today. It's because I was a bit curious that I looked it up. It means: A lengthy and complicated procedure, OR a Long, rambling story or statement. Don't worry this blog won't be a RIGMAROLE (in both terms) it'll be a learning curve. I like the way this word is spelt, when it's written it has such elegance and grace to it and when you say it, it just rolls of your tongue *repeats RIGMAROLE in head*. RIGMAROLE can be said in many different ways depending on the desired effect but i prefere to say it just as an easy word, that comes up in general conversation so as to not make a RIGMAROLE of the situation.

Conglomerate

CONGLOMERATE is a number of different things or parts that are put together or grouped to form a whole but remain distinct entities. This word would probably be relevant in chemistry, a subject i know nothing about.. :/ So with that i suppose you could put it into a fashion context so you put on your favourite shirt and some awesome shorts and you have CONGLOMERATED an outift :D If you do this however, i personally would tend not to say something along the lines of "Hey guys, this is outfit is something i just CONGLOMERATED" - it sounds like you abused your clothes, not normal..

Stoically

STOICALLY means to do something without emotion - in a stoic manner; "he STOICALLY accepted all suffering". and that is an example i found on google. You will find that some people in this world have a very monotone voice where they speak with no emotion, when they do this they are STOICALLY speaking. I don't like when monotone speakers speak and STOIC people in general because i can't pick up their feelings and emotions which i find is a big indicator of who you are.  I, myself can't do anything STOICALLY, my body language and facial expressions give away everything about me on first glance.

Pulchritude

PULCHRITUDE means beauty; comeliness; handsomeness. So ones beauty is ones PULCHRITUDE. A well built man, who is buff/tank/toned/fit has PULCHRITUDE. Next time you see something you like walking down the street instead of calling out damn! or wolf whistling just say quietly to the person you are with they have PULCHRITUDE! This is an odd word for a compliment and if you said it to anyone who didn't know what it was would probably be mad at you for a while until they found out the meaning to it. We all have PULCHRITUDE some of us just haven't found it yet.

Interrobang

INTERROBANG is the combined puncation mark of ? and !. This puncation mark is used to signify both a question and exclaimation of surprise/any other feeling. I thought that the INTERROBANG (?!) was just used by teenagers who had one day just made it up, i had no idea that there was an actual word for it nor it was a real puncuation mark. When writing the INTERROBANG it is a ? with a line to the bottom but not going past the end of it to meet the '.' I would draw it for you but i can't. Next time you have to write an essay or any other form of diplomatic writing, put in an INTERROBANG and see what you superiours say, if they question you say is is an INTERROBANG and if they don't believe you they can look it up for themselves but make sure you use it in the right context.

Aspectabund

ASPECTABUND means to have a expressive face. I have a very expressive face so i guess i am ASPECTABUND. Actors/Actresses have to be ASPECTABUND to be good in their profession whereas poker players hobbyists or otherwise mustn't be ASPECTABUND otherwise they would give everything away which would not be good if they want to make money. I personally think that anyone who is ASPECTABUND seems more friendly and seems more easily to get along with because you can see how they are feeling with just a look into their eyes, but this is just my view and is a stereo type that can sometimes be wrong. Practise expressions in the mirror in the morning and hopefully you will become more ASPECTABUND!

Cataclysmic

We hear this word CATACYMSMIC on news, newspaper articles, tv shows and other discriptive bits of journalism. It means doom, extreamly dangerous etc. There has recently been a cyclone in Western Australia this can be described as a CATACYMSMIC event. When something bad actually happens it is a CATACLYSM. I have absolutely no idea where or when this word originated but i like it because a few years ago when i got my brother to edit my essay for English he added this word in and told me what it meant, overall it was a good night :). This is how i remember this word so i don't know how you are going to but try hard.

Borborgymus

BORBORYGMUS means a rumbling or gurgling noise made by the movement of fluid and gas in the intestines. There's not much contexts that this can be put into unless you are talking about the movement of fluid in the intestines but you could use it as an insult.. Maybe something like "when you talk you sound like a BORBORGYMUS" other wise you could just be sitting at the table waiting for a feed when your stomach rumbles and you can say: "Whoa! did you hear that BORBORGYMUS! - i think you better feed me someone" I love the stupidity of this word and i think it's a bit like when little kids call their friends a poo bum or something - what is the obsession with insults that are also parts of the body?!

Capricious

CAPRICIOUS means to be sudden, unpredictable or changing quickly/energetically. Usane Bolt is CAPRICIOUS when he takes off running, imagine standing next to him then BAM! he starts sprinting! that would scare the crap outta me. When someone scares you they are being CAPRICIOUS and when you scare someone you are being CAPRICIOUS. I suppose when something happens eg. someone falls ill and you saw them yesterday going for a run they would have turned ill CAPRICIOUSLY. Next time you are going for a run try being CAPRICIOUS.

Castigate

CASTIGATE means to reprimand someone severely. When you do something bad to your parents they CASTIGATE you, when you break the law you get CASTIGATED and when you hurt someone for doing something to you, you're CASTIGATING them.
I don't like CASTIGATING although i do believe it necessary for some people to learn the difference between good and bad.

Autoschediastic

AUTOSCHEDIASTIC means to do something on the spur of the moment; improvised; ex tempore. When i break down this word AUTO/SCHED/IASTIC I can see this meaning. AUTO meaning right now, spur of the moment, SCHED is part of schedule also giving me the hint that it is a random act that deserves no thought (even if schedule has nothing to do with random acts more relating to the time in which something must be done) IASTIC, well, i don't know how this fits the meaning but it is in alot of words in the English dictionary and it generally means the characteristic of. So we get the characteristic of doing something that requires no thought right now while we are in auto mode. That is the way i am going to remember it. I love drama. Drama and Economics are my favourite subjects at school and in drama we do alot of improvisation so we are essentially being AUTOSCHEDIASTIC. Sometimes when i am speaking to people i don't necessarily like i will try make myself sound smarter just to make them look dumb, so i make up a whole lot of .. crap and say it with confidence, when i do this i am being AUTOSCHEDIASTIC, (mind you the people never notice that i don't have a clue what I'm talking about so i am doing a pretty good job don't you recon?). That is all for today,  have a good one!

Accismus

ACCISMUS means to feign disinterest when really you desire it. I think this word can be used for all those on a diet when hey see a big, giant, chocolaty mud cake and they ACCISMUS because they would love to have a slice but pretend not to so they can succeed in their weight loss. I think we would probably all do this when we are mad at someone, they will try to make us laugh or mediate with us but we ACCISMUS because we don't want them to see us break and thus, become weak showing we can't hold out on our anger. This word can also be used when one is being peer pressured, for example when a girl may be shopping with some friends and her friends say they don't like a garment of clothing or hate the latest LV shoes so she ma be ACCISMUS because she might be the opposite and love the new shoes and clothing that adds to her individuality but because none of her friends like it she replies with a 'meh, i agree'. Don't be ACCISMUS because it doesn't show the read you.

SACCHARINE means excessively sweet or sentimental. So an orange is SACCHARINE when it is nice and fresh. Well that's all for tonight, don't be too SACCARINE. ;)

Blive

BLIVE means to do something immediatly, right now. This one is a bit olden day and is something that not many people would know, even google doesn't! But don't worry it is a word i looked it up in my huge dictionary that i have at home. My mother always asks me to 'do the dishes' or 'get the washing' now! but i think in order to use the full capacity of her vocabulary she should start challenging her mind with new words such as BLIVE. So something like 'do the dishes BLIVE!' or 'get the washing BLIVE!' and i can replay with the words ' i can't do it BLIVE i am doing something else'. I like it. It has a nice ring to it. Now, go forth and use this new word BLIVE!

Blandiose

BLANDIOSE means something appears to be impressive and has pretentions to granduer but in actual fact is not. So if you or i see something on shopping channel and it seems to be the perfect instrument, you can fo everything. With it! Etc. so we buy it, and it does nothing the channel said it would, its hard to use and doesnt fold for storage. This can work in many ways, a bank account for instance, it may appear that there are low repayment rates and no fee's but when you enter it, you have to pay a large fee then when you make a deposit or transaction you have to pay another fee. Tjis is BLANDIOSE. Sorry this one is so late, i forgot which is quite bad for the challenge. :) Maddy x

Jocund

JOCUND means cheerful and light hearted. I don't think this word is a very 'cheerful word' it doesn't seem very happy instead seeming morbid and saddening. But whatever, I am always JOCUND :) I wouldn't say the same for alot of people i know but thats because they choose to worry too much and don't appreciate the simple things in life. When someone is JOCUND they will most probably be listening to a joke or something funny or just have had a good day.
       Stay JOCUND!!

Verisimilitude

VERISIMILITUDE means the property of seeming true, resembling reality, realism or appearing to be true. TV dramas while they have VERISIMILITUDE we can tell they are not real or true because that much drama doesn't happen in real life. To help you remember this one, (the way i do) if you break down the word it seems to be; very (veri) similar (simili) then (tude) just means the property of. So the property of being very similar [then just] insert reality here :). We see actors and actress'/ their roles in the movies they play as being VERISIMILITUDE.
